Doing It Right (DIR) is a holistic approach to SCUBA diving,
which
encompasses several essential elements, including fundamental diving
skills, teamwork, physical fitness, & the use of streamlined,
minimalistic & standardised equipment configurations, to maximise safety, efficiency & enjoyment of the underwater
environment. The DIR approach was originally confined to cave diving but
soon extended to both technical & recreational
diving.
Club, team & staff members
at In Deep have
adopted & supported DIR disciplines &
philosophies in diving for many years. As such DIR is reflected in
personal diving & teaching styles. Many In Deep members have
gained GUE
qualifications including GUE Fundamentals, Tec 1 & Cave 1.
Athought DIR elements are represented throughout diver training
& club diving at In Deep, DIR Southwest is a branch of the In
Deep Dive club which offers additional DIR training & support.
DIR SW is an expanding group of like minded divers that
dive & socialise as a group & team. With regular dive
trips,
holidays, projects, plans & regular training workshops in both
open
ocean & confined water sites. DIR SW has regular
meetings both at the
centre & other venues hosted at various locations throughout
the UK.
