In 2009, In Deep Dive Centre in association with Plymouth City Council Youth Service started a pilot project for young divers know as the Youth Exploration Divers In Deep (YEDI). The core aims of this project are to increase young people awareness of the underwater environment within the locality of Plymouth; increase accessibility to the underwater environment & enable young people to raise the profile of marine conservation in our city's consciousness. Since 2009 the YEDI project has & is continually progressing these aims. This has been achieved through raising the profile of PADI diver training to young people, through the Youth Service & through local schools; actively enabling & supporting young people to complete PADI recognised qualifications, including marine environmental awareness education. After achieving an open water certificate the young people are offered supervised club diving solely for YEDI's, & actively supporting the YEDI's to achieve professional diving skills & accreditation. In addition to open water qualifications the YEDI project has supported the Youth Service in enabling more young people to experience scuba through offering free PADI Discover Scuba Diving Courses in the City wide 'Summer Mix Scheme'. The YEDI project also supports & works in partnership with the Blue Sound Project based at the Marine Biological Association. To date YEDI has been hugely successful reaching many local young people & actively engaging with multiple conservation projects.
For certified divers
The YEDI project through In Deep Dive Centre offers dedicated club diving for 13 - 19 year olds under the direct supervision of PADI professionals on Monday evenings & weekends, YEDI also offers additional diver training, diving & conservation projects & career support.
